I’m really happy I chose the Ape Stuff Element PFD instead of one from the big established brands. I read about Ape Stuff on a post on Reddit and loved the look of the designs.

Pato was really helpful throughout the process. He sent photos during the making and was kind enough to make some material changes to make sure I got exactly what I wanted (the latest design uses Cordura throughout but I preferred the older design that uses PVC for some parts — Pato kindly remade the vest using the old style for me). He shipped it to me in Japan and it arrived quickly (and happily without any extra customs tax charges!). Thank you Pato!

The vest feels really solid, with good quality materials and parts, and robust stitching. The foam feels stiffer than I’m used to but I suspect it will gradually mould to my body to give a perfect fit like how a new leather shoe breaks in over time. The number, size and position of the pockets feels just right.

There’s maybe not that much functional or quality difference with the products from the big brands but the Ape Stuff vest does everything I want to a high standard and looks fantastic. I have ordered a PFD for rafting. The comunication was easy. The product was personalised with our rafting club logo. I am happy with the result. I like also the materials how they look and how they feel. I think I will have this vest a long time now on.
